Scott Brewer | Résumé
Scott Brewer – (312) 588-0000 – scottbrewer@americaninventive.com
American Inventive (formerly The Media Circus) - November 1993 to present. Video editor using Final Cut Pro, Avid and Adobe software to create broadcast-quality corporate videos and commercials for a wide variety of nationally-known corporations and organizations. My role is not just that of a typical video editor; “post-production director” may be a more accurate term, in that my hands-on functions include all aspects of the creative decision-making and technical duties involved in the post-production process. That means I can take a producer’s raw footage and single-handedly turn it into a high-quality finished production using my many skills, including music selection and composition, voice-over writing and recording, graphics creation and animation, video grading and audio sweetening. My clients continually count on me to put life into dry presentations, problem-solve script and conceptual issues, come to the rescue when productions don’t go as planned and use every trick in the book to keep their audiences interested and entertained.
Highlights include many videos for the healthcare and pharmaceutical industries – including prominent meetings videos for AbbVie/Abbott Labs, consumer videos for central Texas’ largest healthcare system, Scott & White, commercials for Harvard’s Massachusetts General Hospital – as well as for local institutions like the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Northwestern University, Underwriters Laboratories, Kraft Foods and the Eli’s Cheesecake Company. Samples of my work can be seen online at americaninventive.com and many other samples are available upon request.
One prominent client for well over twenty-five years has been Freeman Pictures, a highly respected producer of award-winning corporate films and commercials whose larger projects have included meeting and employee videos for the country’s largest pharmaceutical manufacturers, an ongoing series about healthcare disparities for the American Medical Association, a series of dramatic programs about security issues produced for the US Air Force, an eight-part series on world history and another series devoted to the topic of media literacy aimed at high school students – both produced for McDougal Littell (a publishing division of Houghton Mifflin) – as well as many shows for Fortune 500 clients, from IBM and USG to McDonald’s and Sara Lee, where I've supervised all aspects of the post-production process from stock-music selection to creation of graphics and animations. Other off-site clients have included The Oprah Winfrey Show, Allstate, Williams/Gerard, Videology, Greenview Creative Group, Kurtis Productions and Media Process Group.
I have also worked on many political campaign commercials, most notably through David Axelrod's companies for whom I edited Barack Obama presidential campaign commercials in 2008 as well as spots that helped win back the U.S. House and Senate for the Democrats in 2006.
I have been certified by Apple to teach beginning, intermediate and advanced training courses for their Final Cut Pro editing software.

Freelance Work - November 1984 to 1993. Videotape editor of television commercials and corporate productions operating Grass Valley, CMX, Abekas, Avid and most offline systems.

My clients included McDonald’s and Sears corporate video departments, The Jack Morton Company (Kraft, Baxter) and producers such as Sedgwick Productions, Freese & Friends, Frame One and Bestlight Productions.

I was a film editor for projects including the educational feature film The Mind’s Treasure Chest for Learn TV, plus television commercials and corporate films (including United Airlines, Bristol-Meyers and Eli Lilly).

I served as assistant editor for Clio Award-winning television commercials produced by Sedelmaier Productions (creator of the famous Where’s the Beef? TV commercial) and for feature films including Planes, Trains & AutomobilesJimmy Reardon and Vice Versa.

In addition to editing, I have composed and performed music for Sara Lee, Commonwealth Edison and Leo Burnett USA. I have also collaborated on award-winning music videos by the rock group The Cleaning Ladys as a composer, performer, co-producer and scriptwriter. Videos include Infatuation (Winner of MTV’s Basement Tapes Award) and She Won’t French Kiss (Winner of International Monitor Award and Chicago Music Video Award).

Editor’s Choice, Chicago - September 1983 to October 1984. I was an editor of television commercials. Their clients included McDonald’s, Oldsmobile, United Airlines, General Mills, Sentry Insurance, Del Monte and Coor’s Beer.

Swell Pictures, Chicago - April 1981 to August 1983.  I was a videotape editor, assistant film editor and tape room operator. My editing included television commercials for Amoco, Prestone, Toro and U.S. Savings Bonds.

Education
